Partial Dentures
Most of us have heard of partial dentures, but you may be wondering: What is a partial denture? Partial dentures are meant to replace missing teeth, and affix to both existing teeth via a retentive clasp. They include a framework that closely resembles your gums, and if created by an experienced practice like Treasured Smiles Adult and Cosmetic Dentistry, should blend into your gums nicely.
There are several different types of partial dentures. You can choose a removable partial denture, fixed partial denture, maxillary partial denture, interim partial denture, mandibular partial denture, acrylic partial denture, or unilateral partial denture.
Your dentist will begin the six to eight week-long process by preparing your teeth, then taking careful impressions of the upper and lower arches of your mouth, as well as taking measurements of your bite. After the partial denture is delivered to your doctor’s office, several procedures will take place, often over multiple visits. These include a review of how the partial denture, your teeth and your gums are working together. Your dentist will also examine your bite and how much of an effect the partial denture has on your speech.
Do not be alarmed if it takes you a few weeks to adjust to your partial denture; this is a natural and perfectly normal part of the process. If several weeks pass and you have not progressed, your dentist can make further adjustments to achieve the perfect fit. One benefit of working with Treasured Smiles Adult and Cosmetic Dentistry is the expertise of our doctors. We will take every measure to create the best partial dentures for you.
You should always consult with your dentist regarding how to care for your partial dentures to ensure they hold up well and retain their pleasing appearance over time. Remember, a good doctor is always happy to provide you with guidance and support leading up to and following any procedure.
